What Is a Paint Chip?

Our Repair Process
We take pride in a detail-oriented process that ensures every repair blends naturally with your car’s paint:
- Surface Prep – The chip area is thoroughly cleaned with a solvent to remove dirt, oils, or old wax.
- Rust Removal – Any rust within the chip is carefully scraped out, and the area is wiped down again.
- Paint Match – We match the paint by eye to account for natural fading over the years, ensuring a seamless look.
- Layered Application – Paint is applied in thin, even layers. Bare metal areas may require 3–4 applications, while areas down to primer may only need 1–2.
- Blending – Each chip is blended into the surrounding paint. Additional layers are added as needed until the finish matches the original surface.

Scratches vs. Chips
Scratches: If a scratch is deep enough that your fingernail catches on it, we can apply touch-up paint. Light, shallow scratches that can’t be felt with your nail typically cannot be treated with paint.
Chips: We layer paint directly into the chip, blending until it looks like new.
